Houston Postpartum Support

Postpartum Doula Services

Happily serving the Greater Houston area

What is a Postpartum Doula, and why do I need one?

A postpartum doula is trained to assist families during the newborn phase, otherwise known as the "fourth trimester".  My role is to basically serve as a super helpful, non-judgmental sister who will NEVER provide un-solicited advice (but has a ton of knowledge and information IF asked).  A postpartum doula is there to help you adjust to life with a newborn. And since everyone's needs are different, the role I play is up to you! Whether you need help doing the dishes, need assistance with nursing or bottle feeding, need someone to tackle the mountain of baby laundry, or need someone to care for the baby while you shower, I'm your gal.

Here is a complete list of the services I can provide for you and your family, depending on your needs:

  • Postpartum recovery assistance

  • Newborn care (swaddling, bathing, comforting)

  • Feeding support and assistance

  • Judgement free and unbiased support to increase your confidence with parenting decisions

  • Meal preparation

  • Recognizing symptoms of postpartum mood disorders

  • Light housekeeping and organization (sanitizing bottles and pump parts, and baby laundry included)

  • Sibling care

  • Referrals and references as needed

I am also available for late evening shifts. I understand the value of a good night's sleep during the early stages of parenthood, and I am here to protect your sleep!

My services for night shifts (9 PM to 5 AM) include:

  • Getting up when the baby does to implement chosen feeding method (bottle feeding formula or pumped milk, or bringing the baby to you to nurse).

  • Keeping you company during nighttime breastfeeding or pump sessions, or bringing everything to you so that you can get back to sleep as quickly as possible.

ALL ABOUT ME

Who I Am

My name is Jordanna Lembo Riggs, and I am a postpartum doula! I am a married mother of 3 children under five, so I am very familiar with the hurdles that a new mother faces in the early days of motherhood. I am married to an OBGYN, and we run a fairly large TikTok account (Busymomofmany) with the aim of increasing knowledge and awareness for pregnancy related issues, and women's health in general! You can say that a passion for helping women runs in the family.

I earned my Master's in Psychology, and I minored in Human Development and Family Studies, so I am very well versed in Newborn Development, postpartum recovery, and the psychological/hormonal changes that may occur postpartum.  I am child CPR and first aid certified.

I consider myself to be extremely open-minded and supportive towards new parents navigating the transition to parenthood. They say it takes a village, and I would consider it an honor to be a part of yours!

"Jordanna was basically my fairy godmother.  When my girls were in the
NICU and I needed special formula that was no where to be found she
helped me search. Upon coming home, she brought me a care package.
She didn't ask to hold the baby. She waved and said hi which was just what I
needed. The care package was filled with things that I didn't realize I
was going tneed. Snacks for the middle of the night pump, sunflower
lecithin which helped with my first clog. She even sewed toys for my
girls! I felt comfortable calling her in tears and overwhelmed with clogs
in my breasts. She walked me through how to get relief. She
checked in on how I was doing and not just my girls. She listened
non-judgmentally,  validated my experiences, and made me feel so
supported in a time that can be so isolating."

"Jordanna was with me every step of the way in my postpartum
journey. She was and still is a resource when I have questions about   my newborn and what's normal at each developmental age. Her   advice and expertise made me  feel more confident in the choices
I  was making for my baby. She also helped me work through the leveling out of my postpartum hormones, and pointed me toward resources to help with postpartum depression."
